Whether we’re rich or poor, married or single, in a position of great influence or not—all of us face temptation in the areas of money, sex and power. They are the dangerous opportunities of our time—opportunities to destroy our own souls, or to experience the true joy of using them for God’s glory. John Piper shows us that when we have the blazing glory of Christ at the center of our spiritual solar system, the planets of money, sex and power find their true and beautiful orbits.

This book is for every Christian and will help you to wake up to the all-satisfying glory of God, and discover what you were made for.

Table of Contents:

1. Definitions and Foundations
2. The Pleasure-Destroying Dangers of Sex
3. The Wealth-Destroying Dangers of Money
4. The Self-Destroying Dangers of Power
5. Deliverance: The Return of the Sun to the Center

Praise for Living in the Light:

“This new book is timely and deserves careful consideration by every Christian. It is a theologically rich, biblically faithful exploration of potential stumbling blocks to enjoying God: sex, money, and power. In these pages you will discover not only the spiritual danger of setting your hope in the things of this world but how, as Christians, we can understand sex, money, and power in ways that display God’s glory.”
-R. Albert Mohler, Jr

“If you do not daily wrestle with temptations in the areas of money, sex, or power, it is only because you have surrendered to these temptations. Every Christian must confront our common pull to make idols in these areas. In this book, John Piper equips us to fight temptation by firing up our affections for the glory of God in Jesus Christ. He wisely shows us not only what to avoid, but how to rightly enjoy money, sex, and power as part of a life conformed to Christ through the gospel. I expect to give this book to many friends and fellow combatants in this spiritual war.”
-Russell Moore

Why bother with church? by Sam AllberryThank you for your interest in reviewing Why bother with church?. This blog tour is now full. You can see our current list of available review books here: LINK.

The church has an image problem.

It is widely viewed in the world at large as being outdated, boring, irrelevant and filled with backbiting hypocrites.

How different that picture is to how the Bible talks about the new family that Jesus has gathered. It is a precious bride, a sparkling jewel, a lifeboat for forgiven sinners that is precious and holy; nurturing and warm; filled with truth, friendship and all embracing, forgiving love.

Sam Allberry understands the collision between these two views, and how, even as Christian believers, we can lose sight of how truly wonderful church is and should be, and what a privilege it is to be part of, and to serve.

In this brief accessible but thorough guide to church, Sam outlines what church is and why we need it. And how, when we have got it wrong, we can move closer to what a true church should be.

Table of Contents:

  • Introduction
  • 1. Foundations: how to consider church
  • 2. Life changing: how to attend church
  • 3. Running: how to organize church
  • 4. Imperfect: how to survive church
  • 5. Wonderful: how to love church
  • Conclusion

Fourth in the 'Tales that Tell the Truth' series comes The Garden, the Curtain and the Cross!

This beautiful hardback Bible storybook for 3-6 year olds takes children on a journey from the garden of Eden to God’s perfect new creation. It is a gospel presentation that focuses on the significance of the temple curtain. God said “because of your sin you can’t come in”, but the moment the curtain tore in two, everything changed...

This week the Cross Focused Reviewers are sharing their thoughts on The Garden, the Curtain and the Cross by Carl Laferton & Catalina Echeverri.

“I highly recommend this book, especially if you have young children. This would also be a great addition to any Sunday School classroom. Full of sound biblical truth, wonderfully illustrated, and written so a child can understand it while remaining true to the underlying scarlet thread of redemption woven throughout Scripture, this book is a must have. The Good Book Company has well – hit a grand slam.”

“Reading this book during Easter time is a wonderful opportunity to remind children of the real meaning of Easter. They will see that Easter isn’t about bunnies, eggs and baskets but about Jesus who died for their sin and was resurrected so that they may have eternal life in heaven with Him.”
Reviewer: Debbie Crawford

“You can tell that this book was made with much effort, care, and deep theological knowledge that translates to simple but beautiful truths about mankind and our relationship with God. My kids (2 and 3 years old) loved it and I’m sure younger and older kids would enjoy it too.”

The Garden, The Curtain, and the Cross is a theologically sound book despite being a little heaven-oriented. It contains amazing illustrations that captivate children and draw attention to the language of the book while retaining a great emphasis on sin and the completed work of Jesus Christ (note — there are depictions of Jesus in the book). Our kids loved the book and had many favorite pages of illustration (even some of the sad and dark pages). This has instantly become one of my favorite children books.”
Reviewer: Joshua Torrey

“There is everything to love about this book. The story telling is captivating and rhythmic. The picture art is truly unique and can almost tell the story itself without the words. Kids, and parents alike, will love reading through this book over and over again.”
