When we view Ya'acov (James) for who he was: a chief rabbi, a Torah scholar, a Bible commentator, and akin to a high court judge, then we can better understand the purpose of his book. One of the main thrusts of Ya'acov's teaching is encouraging the practical application of the Torah's teachings.

Reviewer: Michael Taylor

“The first century Jewish world, both Jews and Messianic Jews, views “works” as the performance of the biblical commandments as stemming from one’s faith in God, and never in opposition to it. In Jewish thought, the purpose of fulfilling the biblical commandments was never to earn entrance into the world to come, which may be a misconception of many today.”

James The JustYeshua`s Brother & Chief Rabbi of the Messianic Jewish Community James the Just (Ya`Akov HaTzaddik) Presents Applications of Torah By Dr. David Friedman with D.B. Friedman

When we view Ya’acov (James) for who he was: a chief rabbi, a Torah scholar, a Bible commentator, and akin to a high court judge, then we can better understand the purpose of his book. One of the main thrusts of Ya’acov’s teaching is encouraging the practical application of the Torah’s teachings.

Praise for James the Just Presents Applications of Torah:

“…a whole new perspective on how to view the book of Ya`acov. With his scholarship and knowledge of ancient Hebrew texts, Dr. Friedman puts Ya`acov back into his correct historical context and gives us much to chew on.”
— Dr. M. Leibowitz, Tempe, AZ

“…hidden Jewish concepts are brought out, which would have been known to the reference community of Ya’acov, who received this practical manual for Jewish life…an important explanation of the theme of “faith vs. works.”
— S. H. R. ben Haim, MILIM-MJTI Center, Jerusalem, Israel.

“It is a privilege to drink from the author’s very deep well of knowledge and understanding of the ancient languages of Scripture.”
— Pastor Steven Shelley, Salem, AL.

“Dr. David Friedman has written a refreshing look at the book of James/Ya’acov, making it clearly understood that there is a balance of Torah observance and God’s grace.”
— Shmuel Oppenheim, Rabbi, Lev HaShem Messianic Jewish Synagogue, Las Vegas, Nevada

1 Samuel For You Book Cover 1 Samuel For You

1 Samuel is a book of barrenness and battles, kings and schemes, shepherds and giants. It recounts the history of Israel as it moved from no king, to the king it demanded, to the king God knew his people needed.

But its greatest excitement lies not in the events and characters, but in the person they all point to. 1 Samuel presents us with a wonderful picture of Jesus. Seeing him in and through this Old Testament book enables us to see him with fresh colour and texture, and see afresh what it means for us to follow him today as our Ruler and Rescuer. 1 Samuel is a book about ancient times, that speaks directly into ours.

Written for people of every age and stage, from new believers to pastors and teachers, 1 Samuel For You can be used to:
