Reformation Women: Sixteenth-Century Figures Who Shaped Christianity's Rebirth by Rebecca VanDoodeward

Thank you for your interest in reviewing Reformation Women. This blog tour is now full. You can see our current list of available review books here: LINK.

Women are an essential element in church history. Just as Deborah, Esther, and the New Testament Marys helped shape Bible history, so the women of the Reformed church have helped to make its history great. In Reformation Women, Rebecca Vandoodewaard introduces readers to twelve sixteenth-century women who are not as well known today as contemporaries like Katie Luther and Lady Jane Grey. Providing an example to Christians today of strong service to Christ and His church, these influential, godly women were devoted to Reformation truth, in many cases provided support for their husbands, practiced hospitality, and stewarded their intellectual abilities. Their strength and bravery will inspire you, and your understanding of church history will become richer as you learn how God used them to further the Reformation through their work and influence.

Praise for Reformation Women:

“The modern resurgence of Reformed theology, publishing, and ministry is not just for those with beards. Nor has it ever been, for a healthy Calvinism has always seen women making incredible contributions. With crisp prose showing how biblical femininity resulted in a strength among a dozen Reformed women that was both “tough and ladylike,” Rebecca VanDoodewaard has done all the church—both men and women—a tremendous service in providing this work. She brings the lesser-known ladies from Good’s original Famous Women of the Reformed Church alive for a new generation.”
—Barry York, professor of pastoral theology and dean of faculty, Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary

“When this book arrived on my doorstep, I was anxious to read it. Few accessible works exist on the heroines of the Reformation, so I read these biographies with the desire to learn. But I walked away with more than learning; I was challenged and inspired. I have new heroes of the faith, and so will every Christian who reads this wonderful collection. Thank you, Rebecca Vandoodewaard, for introducing many of us to these saintly women and sharing their testimonies— testimonies that can’t help but encourage every saint to live more for Christ.”
—Jason Helopoulos, associate pastor, University Reformed Church, Lansing, Michigan

Reformation Women is a book of rare quality and interest as Rebecca VanDoodewaard opens up a whole new dimension in the ongoing story of Christ’s church. We learn of the enormous contribution made by twelve women to the progress of the Reformation in the sixteenth century. Here we have women from diverse backgrounds—some of whose names we can hardly pronounce—whom God raised up and used in a remarkable way. You will be humbled and inspired by these pages and long to serve God better in whatever sphere you have been placed.”
—Faith Cook, author of Lady Jane Grey: Nine Day Queen of England and several other Christian biographies and historical books

Pray About Everything by Paul TautgesThank you for your interest in reviewing Pray About Everything. This blog tour is now full. You can see our current list of available review books here: LINK.

Believers need to learn to pray about everything, but so many unanswered questions hinder our progress.

  • What does it mean to pray in Jesus’ name?
  • How do I pray for my non-Christian friends?
  • When does the Holy Spirit pray for me?

In this book, a seasoned pastor and counselor answers these questions—and many more—by effectively instructing us with biblical principles, examples, and commands. By doing so, he encourages us to develop a life of prayer. Pastors, elders, and small group leaders will also find this book an indispensable help to cultivating an atmosphere of God-dependency in their local church.

Pray About Everything delivers an urgent call for believers to commit themselves to regular and systematic heartfelt prayer as an essential spiritual discipline for the Christian life.

Praise for Pray About Everything:

Hope for the Same-Sex Attracted by Ron CitlauThank you for your interest in reviewing Hope for the Same-Sex Attracted. This blog tour is now full. You can see our current list of available review books here: LINK.

Sometimes in our big-picture discussions about homosexuality and same-sex marriage, we lose sight of the person in the middle of the struggle. Whether that struggler is you or someone you care about, there are two fundamental questions that need to be answered: How can someone with same-sex attraction be faithful to Jesus? And how can everyone else support and encourage them in this pursuit?

With clarity and grace, author and pastor Ron Citlau will help you think through every option the Bible offers–and what it does not. Having personally dealt with same-sex attraction, walked with others still struggling, and pastored those with gay loved ones, he encourages readers to think deeply and biblically about heterosexual marriage, singleness, celibacy, and more.

Discover the remarkable gifts God provides to the same-sex-attracted Christian who desires to faithfully follow Jesus. And learn how others can come alongside them with love, encouragement, and grace.

Listen to Ron Citlau’s interview on The Shaun Tabatt Show.

Praise for Hope for the Same-Sex Attracted:

“A must-read for pastors, counselors, lay leaders, and same-sex strugglers! Citlau addresses current popular roadblocks in Christian circles and suggests solid ways toward transformation. He highlights practical ways the body of Christ can aid the struggler in ‘straining forward to what lies ahead . . . the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus’ (Philippians 3:13-14).”

Anne Paulk, executive director, Restored Hope Network

“Ron Citlau bravely supplies compassionate, biblical counsel on perhaps the most divisive issue of our day. He challenges same-sex-attracted Christians not to identify with their temptation, and he calls the church to be their community of love, healing, and family. This is an important book for all same-sex-attracted Christians, and for the people who love them.”

Michael Wittmer, professor of systematic theology, Grand Rapids Theological Seminary, Cornerstone University

“I am deeply grateful to my friend Ron for writing this book. He reinforces Gospel hope that has been lost in too many circles, either abandoned for false teaching or set aside as wishful thinking. With selfless honesty and humility, Ron extends the healing Jesus died to make possible.”

Adam T. Barr, author, Compassion Without Compromise; lead pastor, Peace Church

Ron CitlauAbout the Author: Ron Citlau graduated from the University of California, Riverside and Western Theological Seminary. He has served in ministry positions in Southern California and Kansas City. He is the pastor of Calvary Church in Orland Park, Illinois, part of the Reformed Church in America.

Ron struggled with same-sex attraction his whole life and has worked with and walked alongside many others who have struggled with sexual brokenness, as well as equipping pastoral leaders to serve those dealing with sexual sin. He also worked with Andrew Comiskey, producing curriculum on sexual healing now used by Desert Stream Ministries in hundreds of churches throughout the country. When he isn’t working, he loves to be with his wife, Amy, and their four boys: Jack, Sawyer, Eli, and Crosby.

Lighthouse Faith: God as a Living Reality in a World Immersed in Fog Book Cover Lighthouse Faith: God as a Living Reality in a World Immersed in Fog

Is God Just a Distant Concept? An Award-Winning Religion Correspondent is Convinced the Answer is No and Explores the Possible Relationship with Our Creator

Fox News Religion Correspondent Lauren Green uses her wealth of stories, vast network of contacts, and her own extensive study of theology to take the reader on a unique journey of spiritual discovery. With few female authors writing in the field of theology, Green provides an important perspective to all who wish to move closer to not only a deeper relationship with God but an understanding of what makes that possible.

Green gathers insight from some amazing guides along the way, through personal conversations with some of the leading minds in the world on the topic of Christianity. These include:

  • Timothy Keller
  • John Piper
  • Alister McGrath
  • William Lane Craig
  • John Lennox
  • Sir John Polkinghorne
  • Amy Beckman
  • Elizabeth Lev
  • … and many more

Is God simply an accessory that we carry with us? Something similar to what we might download from a music site to suit our personal tastes—a personal assistant in a way? Or is He His law, His structure, and His authoritative Word contained in the Holy Scripture, an objective reality to which you daily shape your life? If we believe or know we should believe that it’s the latter, how do we make this happen? How do we live joyfully under God’s will in a world so drenched in the will of human desire?

Lighthouse Faith explores the heart of the Christian doctrine and a pathway of perceiving God as an interactive hands-on presence; a caring and loving being. The first commandment is a life-giving force loaded with information about the world in which we live. This law stands atop the other nine commandments as a beacon of light, illuminating the created order, just as a lighthouse lamp shines in a darkened space, heralding a way to safety.

This week the Cross Focused Reviewers share their thoughts on Lighthouse Faith: God as a Living Reality in a World Immersed in Fog by Lauren Green (W Publishing Group, 2017)

“This is a challenging book from start to finish and one we all need in these days we are living. One well worth the time to read!”

“Green’s book was still an enjoyable read. Her prose was vivid and compelling, and her personal stories were genuine and heartfelt”

“This book is her faith journey as she travels over all of God’s creation seeing His work manifest in ways and in places she did not expect. I would recommend this book…”
Reviewer: Dan Doll

“…this book will certainly cause something to stir inside you in such a way that you question the status quo. To the point that you begin to look for the light in your dark night is the point where you begin to understand the journey of people everywhere. They can hear the fog horn and see the light from the water but aren’t sure how to get there. Be that person who points them in the right direction and help them answer their questions in their pursuit of the light. This book will help you do that.”
Reviewer: Don Haflich
Rating: 4 Stars

“The eye of faith stands behind her work and many will benefit from her simple approach and sometimes deeply personal life-lessons.”
Reviewer: Robert Hayton
Rating: 3 Stars

“As a pastor, one of the things I appreciated was the anecdotes scattered throughout to illustrate the points. Her seasoned work as a reporter has given her windows into some incredibly helpful stories that help illustrate many different themes that come up in my preaching. They were consistently helpful, engaging and would give real life examples of why these things matter.”
Reviewer: Aaron Meservey

“As someone who enjoys a book on current issues and theology, I enjoyed this book for primarily two reasons. The first is that Lauren Green writes from a perspective that is greatly influenced by God and His word. Second, her way of writing is inspiring as she uses imagery, symbolism and anecdotes to reel the reader in and while there, hits it home with strong gospel truths.”
Reviewer: Krista Rodriguez

“…the book is well written and constantly points you to the master of the seas, Jesus Christ.”
