The Resurrection Fact: Responding to Modern Critics Book Cover The Resurrection Fact: Responding to Modern Critics

As the team did with the book, Making the Case For Christianity (CPH), Drs. Bombaro and Francisco bring together a variety of contemporary Lutheran apologists to respond to a wide array of challenges to the heart of the Christian faith.

Each chapter addresses a specific argument from a popular, non-Christian author and offers a clear and concise rebuttal and argument for the resurrection.

The editors have found able representatives from the disciplines of biblical studies, history, philosophy, and the legal profession to write each chapter.

The book is accessible, written for a broad audience, and is ultimately designed to equip its readers for the apologetics task.

This week the Cross Focused Reviewers share their thoughts on The Resurrection Fact: Responding to Modern Critics by John J. Bombaro and Adam S. Francisco.

The Resurrection Fact: Responding to Modern Critics is a compendium detailing the elements and weaknesses of the enemy’s assaults and the reasoning that gives thinking Christians more confidence in this core aspect of our theology”

“Anyone interested in Christian apologetics would be wise to become familiar with presuppositional apologetics.”
Reviewer: Chris Lawson

“This readable account serves well as a basic introduction to apologetics for any Christian regardless of the level of prior knowledge. It serves pastors as a guide to encourage and equip his flock to bear witness to the Resurrection. This book serves any reader who wishes to read an account concerning the reasons Christians believe.”

“Highly recommended if you have read any of these critics… a good high quality work.”
Reviewer: Jonathan Roberts

“The book combines scholarly research and a popular reading style so both academics and laypeople may readily understand the contents. Will be an excellent future reference for more study.”
Reviewer: Michael Taylor
Rating: 4 Stars

“Overall this book provides a good defense of the resurrection with each contributors demonstrating attention to details. I think this book would be a good one to place in the hands of students today as many will be confronted with objections that parallel those dealt with in this book.”
Reviewer: Steven Dressen
Rating: 5 Stars

“Throughout the book they not only reveal the facts, as discernible by a historian, but deal with the underlying presuppositions of the skeptical in analyzing the facts. The case made for the resurrection I believe is compelling.”
Reviewer: Aaron Meservey

“The book is well-written and a relatively quick read, at least if the reader has a reasonable familiarity with theology and theological terms.”
Reviewer: Joe Westbrook

“Because the resurrection is the center of Christian faith, Satan will continue to attack it. The goal will remain the same, but the approach will be different. “The Resurrection Fact: Responding to Modern Critics” comes onto scene to address the challenge.”

Lighthouse Faith: God as a Living Reality in a World Immersed in Fog Book Cover Lighthouse Faith: God as a Living Reality in a World Immersed in Fog

Is God Just a Distant Concept? An Award-Winning Religion Correspondent is Convinced the Answer is No and Explores the Possible Relationship with Our Creator

Fox News Religion Correspondent Lauren Green uses her wealth of stories, vast network of contacts, and her own extensive study of theology to take the reader on a unique journey of spiritual discovery. With few female authors writing in the field of theology, Green provides an important perspective to all who wish to move closer to not only a deeper relationship with God but an understanding of what makes that possible.

Green gathers insight from some amazing guides along the way, through personal conversations with some of the leading minds in the world on the topic of Christianity. These include:

  • Timothy Keller
  • John Piper
  • Alister McGrath
  • William Lane Craig
  • John Lennox
  • Sir John Polkinghorne
  • Amy Beckman
  • Elizabeth Lev
  • … and many more

Is God simply an accessory that we carry with us? Something similar to what we might download from a music site to suit our personal tastes—a personal assistant in a way? Or is He His law, His structure, and His authoritative Word contained in the Holy Scripture, an objective reality to which you daily shape your life? If we believe or know we should believe that it’s the latter, how do we make this happen? How do we live joyfully under God’s will in a world so drenched in the will of human desire?

Lighthouse Faith explores the heart of the Christian doctrine and a pathway of perceiving God as an interactive hands-on presence; a caring and loving being. The first commandment is a life-giving force loaded with information about the world in which we live. This law stands atop the other nine commandments as a beacon of light, illuminating the created order, just as a lighthouse lamp shines in a darkened space, heralding a way to safety.

This week the Cross Focused Reviewers share their thoughts on Lighthouse Faith: God as a Living Reality in a World Immersed in Fog by Lauren Green (W Publishing Group, 2017)

“This is a challenging book from start to finish and one we all need in these days we are living. One well worth the time to read!”

“Green’s book was still an enjoyable read. Her prose was vivid and compelling, and her personal stories were genuine and heartfelt”
Reviewer: James Pate

“This book is her faith journey as she travels over all of God’s creation seeing His work manifest in ways and in places she did not expect. I would recommend this book…”
Reviewer: Dan Doll
Rating: 4 Stars

“…this book will certainly cause something to stir inside you in such a way that you question the status quo. To the point that you begin to look for the light in your dark night is the point where you begin to understand the journey of people everywhere. They can hear the fog horn and see the light from the water but aren’t sure how to get there. Be that person who points them in the right direction and help them answer their questions in their pursuit of the light. This book will help you do that.”
Reviewer: Don Haflich
Rating: 4 Stars

“The eye of faith stands behind her work and many will benefit from her simple approach and sometimes deeply personal life-lessons.”
Reviewer: Robert Hayton
Rating: 3 Stars

“As a pastor, one of the things I appreciated was the anecdotes scattered throughout to illustrate the points. Her seasoned work as a reporter has given her windows into some incredibly helpful stories that help illustrate many different themes that come up in my preaching. They were consistently helpful, engaging and would give real life examples of why these things matter.”
Reviewer: Aaron Meservey
Rating: 5 Stars

“As someone who enjoys a book on current issues and theology, I enjoyed this book for primarily two reasons. The first is that Lauren Green writes from a perspective that is greatly influenced by God and His word. Second, her way of writing is inspiring as she uses imagery, symbolism and anecdotes to reel the reader in and while there, hits it home with strong gospel truths.”
Reviewer: Krista Rodriguez
Rating: 5 Stars

“…the book is well written and constantly points you to the master of the seas, Jesus Christ.”

The Cross Focused Reviewers share their thoughts on 90 Days in John 14-17, Romans & James by Timothy Keller & Sam Allberry.

“I look forward to working slowly through this book over a 90 day period so I can soak up all of these benefits and more. I couldn’t more highly recommend a 90-day daily devotional!”
Reviewer: Chrys Jones

“I would personally recommend the Explore by the Book series and specially this volume to anyone looking for a resource to guide them in personal study. The guided but flexible format allows the resource to be tailored to everyone’s learning style and schedule.”
Reviewer: Zach Kendrick
Rating: 4 Stars

“Keller and Allberry do a great job in leading the reader through the pages of the Bible. This book is not meant to take the place of deep Bible study, but to give everyone a taste in reading and studying the Bible on a deeper level… I am looking forward to see more devotionals like this one.”
Reviewer: Chris Land
Rating: 5 Stars

“I do recommend this book for anyone desiring to study the Bible. Personally, my church is going through the book of Romans this year and I have found the section on Romans to be quite helpful for that. I am thankful for good tools like this that help you faithfully and correctly study the Bible.”
Reviewer: Angela Parsley
Rating: 5 Stars

“Keller and Allberry say that obedience to God is a sign that we have genuinely been saved and that not all who profess to be Christians are actual Christians. I think that the two ideas run contrary to each other, at least in terms of the psychological effect that they can have on the believer. The first idea is comforting, the second, not so much. The tension is understandable, though, considering the different biblical texts with which Keller and Allberry are interacting, and the co-existing themes of grace and practical righteousness within the Bible.”
Reviewer: James Pate

“I highly recommend you grab a copy of 90 Days in John 14-17, Romans, James, or one of the other volumes in this series. You’ll be glad you did!”
Reviewer: Jeff Randleman
Rating: 5 Stars

“Great content. Great format. I really cannot think of any reason that these volumes should not be at the top of any Christians to-be-read list.”
Reviewer: Josh Skinner
Rating: 4 Stars

“If your Bible study is done with the use of devotionals, you need this one. Brief and to the point…”
Reviewer: Bledi Valca
Rating: 4 Stars

“This is a wonderful devotional and study book for anyone and especially for those newer to the Scriptures. The format helps in keeping one organized and the study method is very effective and enjoyable.”
Reviewer: Joanne Viola
Rating: 5 Stars

“I encourage you to get a copy of this, or any in the series… if you are needing a boost to your devotional life this is a good one because it forces you to get into the Bible for yourself. And when you get into the Bible for yourself the Word of God will do the work of God, conforming you to the image of Jesus.”
Reviewer: Ben Wilson

“This is my first exposure to the Explore by the Book series but given the quality of this devotional it will be a series I explore further. If you’re looking for a devotional that will aid that will attract you to the word rather than distract you this should be at the top of your list.”
Reviewer: Steven Dresen

“This is precisely the kind of devotional I like to start my day with.”
Reviewer: Mandy Johnson

Explore by the Book is a wonderful concept that is best used with the hardback edition of the book and a physical copy of your Bible open.”
Reviewer: Bill Pence
Rating: 4 Stars

“As far as a devotional is concerned I think this is an excellent option. Structurally it stands out from most other devotionals in that it is hardbound and yet contains the blank ruled page for the reader to interact with the day’s text. It also stands out from many other devotionals in its doctrinal emphasis and pastoral application. I personally think this would be an excellent book to use as a family and would only require a quick “on the fly” simplification of a few words or a kid-friendly interpretation here and there for any younger children.”
Reviewer: Aaron Cerda
Rating: 4 Stars

“All in all, this looks like a helpful tool for the believer who appreciates some guidance for times of private worship.”
Reviewer: Ben Franks
Rating: 4 Stars

“This devotional is designed to cause the reader to deal with the text of scripture before dealing with the content added by the authors. They want to engage the reader with the words of God and in so doing, want to effect a change of heart as one sees the beauty and clarity of the revelation of God.”
Reviewer: Don Haflich
Rating: 4 Stars

“This book would make a great gift for someone you know who wants to study the Bible but doesn’t know how, or doesn’t have much time to sit and do a regular study. What a great tool!”
Reviewer: Alex Houston
Rating: 4 Stars

“Keller and Allberry go through the four chapters in John and Romans and James verse-by-verse highlighting important events and topics that will help you apply God’s Word to your life and situation.”
Reviewer: Jill Jones
Rating: 4 Stars

“Perhaps the greatest value of the book is the help it offers in thinking about how scripture should be understood and applied. The model employed might be applied to any Biblical text. In other words, the book helps one understand how to take the raw Biblical text and think about how it should look in one’s life.”
Reviewer: Mark Lugg
Rating: 5 Stars

“I love the Bible. The upper room discourses & Jesus’ high priestly prayer, the book of Romans and James, contain some of my go-to passages. If you are looking for a devotional or guided study to discover these sections of scripture, this is a good choice.”
Reviewer: James Matichuk

“I would highly recommend this book and have already given a copy away to a newer believer and may be buying more. A great resource thank you!!!”
Reviewer: Jonathan Roberts
Rating: 5 Stars

Explore By The Book: 90 Days in John 14-17, Romans, and James will lead the reader into a great understanding of what God’s Word means and how it can be applied in life. What many devotionals lack, The Good Book company has produced in Explore By The Book. If you are a Christian who desires substance in their Bible reading, then pick up a copy of this volume.”
Reviewer: Theron St. John
Rating: 5 Stars

“This book would be useful as a light, very basic introduction to those important portions of Scripture. Also format and production qualities are good.”
Reviewer: Douglas Wallace
Rating: 3 Stars

“Keller & Allberry do great work in exposition of each text to confirm proper biblical interpretation so that clear and whole application takes place in the reader’s life. This is another great resource to get you into God’s Word so that God’s Word gets into you.”

Angels by Ed Rocha

After a powerful encounter with the Spirit of God, Ed Rocha’s life and vision were changed forever. He began to see the supernatural with his own eyes, including healings, signs, wonders and angels. In this rich, biblically grounded book, Rocha, an international healing ministry leader, invites readers to join him on a breathtaking adventure, filled with supernatural experiences. Through faith-inspiring stories of real-life angelic encounters and a deep exploration of Scripture, you’ll better understand the power of angels to bring healing, strength and deliverance.

God has always been at work in our world, sending His angels to interact and intervene in history. It’s time for us to open our eyes, embrace their presence and join in their work!

Praise for Angels-God’s Supernatural Agents:

“It is essential for all believers to understand angels in order to partner with them to move into the greatest explosion of miracles and soul harvest in history. This is your how-to book.”
-Sid Roth, host, It’s Supernatural!

“Ed Rocha is an amazing minister, pastor, healing evangelist and church planter. I have known him for over a decade, during which time he served as my translator in Brazil. He is a student of the ways of God. He is sensitive to the Holy Spirit and receives revelation from God, which creates in him a strong faith for healing. I love what God is doing in his life, and in his church in Rio de Janeiro, Pier49. I am proud to have Ed as one of my spiritual sons, and proud to have a spiritual son who is an author. He is a great storyteller, making the experiences he shares come to life for the reader. I recommend Angels-God’s Supernatural Agents.”
-Dr. Randy Clark, overseer, Apostolic Network of Global Awakening

“Ed brings to us a much-needed understanding of angels and God’s purpose in sending them to us. Angelic activity is part of the supernatural realm we are to operate in. Our understanding of this realm and how angels are sent to us by God is vital to bring the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven.”
-Cal Pierce, international director, Healing Rooms Ministries

“As one who was fished out of a flooding river at age three by an angel, I was already warming up to Ed Rocha’s new book. Angels-God’s Supernatural Agents is not simply a topic of systematic theology, but an encouraging faith-builder, almost on the level of an angelic visitation itself. Just as spiritual gifts are part of God’s New Covenant (see Acts 2:39, citing Isaiah 59:21), so angels are part of God’s loving covenant with us to protect, feed, inform, warn, rescue and heal. Like the charismata, angels are to be sought as servants from God for our provision. This book engagingly explains and encourages angelic ministry in all its marvelous diversity. This is a great gift for friends who think the only angel they will ever encounter is atop their Christmas tree.”
-Jon Ruthven, Ph.D., D.Min., professor emeritus, Regent University; author, On the Cessation of the Charismata, What’s Wrong with Protestant Theology? and more
