As twenty-first-century Christians, we must relate to the world, but the question is, how do we relate to it? Some Christians isolate themselves and develop a bunker mentality, while others are inattentive, viewing the world as irrelevant and maintaining a kind of distant ignorance that lacks sincere compassion. Still others, motivated by doing good to others, emulate the world and simply meld into the environment. In Passing Through: Pilgrim Life in the Wilderness, Pastor Jeremy Walker offers us a helpful, encouraging guide to making our way through this life as we root our activities in our identity as disciples of Jesus Christ. He reminds us that we need the Word of God as our map and the Spirit of Christ as our compass in order to embrace our identity and pursue our activities to the praise and glory of our God and Savior.

This week, the Cross Focused Reviewers are participating in a book review blog tour for Passing Through: Pilgrim Life in the Wilderness by Jeremy Walker. Excerpts and links to the reviews will appear below as they are available:

“For Christians living in the 21st century, this is a book that all believers in Christ must read. As we see ourselves as the moral minority, this book will not only equip its readers, but also encourage them”

” I highly recommend it to all readers of virtually any reading level. There is much to profit in reading it.”
Reviewer: Daniel Pandolph
Rating: 4 Stars

“This book is a very encouraging read. I found the chapters on understanding the environment, knowing the enemy, fighting the battles and respecting the authorities most relevant to living in today’s culture and world. I was reminded that I too easily dismiss our enemy the devil as if he did not exist or had little power.”

“Just before and after reading this title, we have seen changes both in America and Great Britain (where the author resides) that make this read even more timely. Indeed, while the world becomes a more ungodly and dangerous place to live, the Christian has an infinitely better eternal home!”
Reviewer: Michael Taylor

“There were moments when I wanted to “high-five” or raise my hand up and say Amen! ”
Reviewer: Annette Kristynik

“This is the kind of book that could get preachy or holier-than-though at times but Walker walks (pun not necessarily intended) the line and does not go over into being preachy, but does a wonderful job of convicting as he writes about what really matters, Christ and His Kingdom!!!”
Reviewer: Jon Roberts

“This book is readable, but it is not light. Each chapter follows the pattern of the subject being defined and illustrated, then a spiritual framework is given, followed up by summary thoughts, so each chapter’s subject is thoroughly deal with. Full of pastoral application I believe Christians who are unfamiliar with the idea of pilgrim life or Christians who are not struggling with the thoughts of living in an hostile, anti-Christian society, will be helped and encouraged.”
Reviewer: Doug Newell
