Persuasive PreachingMichael Dudit, executive editor of Preaching Magazine, writes in the foreword that “the reader will find in this book a valuable discussion of what persuasion really is, what the Bible has to say about it, how it is modeled in the New Testament, and what role persuasion should and should not play in our own preaching in the twenty-first century. The author has provided solid biblical content and practical guidance that will be a powerful resource for preachers and church leaders. He writes with clarity and—dare I say it?—persuasive power. I hope you will be as blessed by this book as I have been.”

Praise for Persuasive Preaching:

“Persuasive Preaching presents the biblical and practical case for persuasion that balances the inherent power of God’s Word and the ever-present power of God’s Spirit (from the divine perspective) with the expositional power of God’s preacher (from the human perspective) so that those who hear the truth of Scripture might grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. For the preacher to do less is for him to be disobedient to Scripture and attempting more is to sinfully and unsuccessfully usurp God’s role summarizes the ultimate implication of this most thorough treatise. May Overstreet’s work have a wide hearing for God’s greater glory!”
—Richard Mayhue, Executive Vice President and Dean, The Master’s Seminary

“When it comes to preaching, if you think that persuasion is unnecessary, unethical, or unbiblical, Overstreet’s case for it will make you think again. Read and weigh the evidence and I suspect you will take steps to work on persuasion in the pulpit. The lexical data alone, make this volume worth owning.”
—Greg R. Scharf, Professor of Pastoral Theology, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School
