This week the Cross Focused Reviewers are participating in a book review blog tour for Guiltless Living: Confessions of a Serial Sinner Captured by the Grace of God by Ginger Hubbard (Shepherd Press, 2014). Excerpts and links to the reviews will appear below as they are available:

“In the book, Guiltless Living, the author shows us through different experiences the way that we should act regarding our Christian walk and basically how God would want us to respond to life’s difficulties. We are called to help our fellow neighbors even if that means our comfort takes a back seat to the situation. The first chapter in the book describes a situation where the author definitely felt that she was placed out in the middle of nowhere and she shares her struggles with that. She was funny, but ever so steady to point out to me where God needed to be inserted into the situation and taught her how it should of been handled… I loved this book.”

“Each chapter starts with our author’s own struggle and experience with each sin in a very humorous way. She exposes the sin in a very real way but also exposes how Jesus dealt with our hearts in response. The question becomes what is our response to who Jesus is and how we live in light of the Gospel.”

Should you read this book? If you think you are a pretty good person, yes, study it to have your conscience reactivated. If you are overwhelmed in your struggle with sin, read it to be reminded of God’s grace and goodness.

I thought it good that this woman doesn’t laugh off ”normal” sins such as road rage, proud thoughts, etc. Instead she actually makes herself out to be the worst of sinners in each of those moments. Which is how each of us should view ourselves. Every time we sin, it is an enormous trespass against God’s law. This book has a good perspective on the depth of even the ‘little’ sins, balanced biblically with God’s grace and forgiveness to His children.

I would certainly recommend this book to those struggling under the weight of sin.  I think it would be especially helpful for women as they can likely relate to many of the personal examples that Hubbard provides.  I will likely add it to the book rack at our church.

“I was touched by Hubbard’s willingness to share personal stories that illustrate timeless Biblical truths, despite the fact that they revealed her own sinful behavior. Guiltless Living is a beautiful reminder that it is only through the cross that we can experience hope, because Christ has already paid our debts, and wrapped us in His Grace.”

“The book is written with humor and candor and because of that you may be more open to see which areas may relate to your life and struggles, where repentance may be needed, where some work may need to be done. You can take a look at yourself without feeling judged by the author who is very honest about her own struggles.”
