Finally Free by Heath LambertThis week the Cross Focused Reviewers are participating in a book review blog tour for Finally Free: Fighting For Purity With the Power Of Grace by Heath Lambert. Excerpts and links to the reviews will appear below as they are available:

“I’ve read numerous books, articles, and blogs on battling pornography and there is not one that comes close with gospel-power as this book does. Lambert doesn’t flinch at such a horrific sin, because he is grounded in the gospel and his writing proves this.”

“This is a book of victory, a book of hope. Its focus is on sexual immorality, but it can easily apply to any other addiction that afflicts and enslaves us.”
Reviewer: Beverly Terry (beverlylynnt.wordpress.com)

“Because so many of us have some type addiction, this book may be for you. It does target pornorgraphy. However, I think the application and teaching will help anyone that is wanting freedom from their addictions.”

“Christians love Saving Grace. We get, we love it, we even share it. But how many of us count on Transforming Grace to flow from that same fountain? And that is what this book is about. The Gospel is not just sufficient to save, but is also sufficient to transform as we journey to conform into the image of the one that saved us.”

“Perhaps you might be struggling with pornography and don’t know how to fight it. You keep on telling yourself, “This will be the last time.” and you keep on coming to the throne of grace to ask for forgiveness and might even think that you are not a true Christian because you are committing the same sin over and over again (habitual sin). Be of good cheer and let Heath Lambert take you through this book…”

“Heath Lambert, in his Finally Free has provided a resource that is gospel focused for a subject that is a silent destroyer of the soul, families, churches and ultimately communities.”

“I’ve not read a better book on this topic, one that is richly biblical and centered in the Gospel. This book will be of help to Pastors, youth ministers, college ministers, and Christians of all ages who struggle against the tide of our pornographic age.”

Finally Free: Fighting For Purity with the Power of Grace is a much needed book for our time… This book is a valuable tool for anyone caught in this awful web of deceit.”

“Lambert takes a bare knuckles approach to the fight against pornography in a way that also extends grace and mercy to the users and their families. In fact, the very center of Lambert’s approach is the grace of God that has been made known through Jesus Christ. From this center of God’s grace the fight is taken to the sin of self-satisfaction through pornography.”

“While there have been a bevy of books written in recent years on how to deal with addiction to pornography, Heath Lambert’s Finally Free stands above the proverbial crowd. Filled with very practical advice that if utilized will assist the individual struggling with pornography to feel the embrace of God’s grace in their life, this book is a must read in the dealing with the issue of pornography genre.”

“Mr. Lambert has written a much needed book dealing with an area of sin that has consumed a major portion of society. I like that he has used grace as a major theme of his counseling. Grace is something that doesn’t come easy for most people. I would recommend this book for counselors, and those who know someone, or if you are someone dealing with this huge problem.”

Finally Free is one of those books you buy a dozen of and keep on hand… Such an encouraging and Christ-focused book.”

“I believe that this book can be and will be a long-term key ingredient and resource in the counselling ministries of Christian leaders helping men (and women) get free from porn. I highly recommend it for men and women seeking freedom from porn, and for their spouses, friends and counselors who want to help them.”

“Even if you aren’t currently struggling with pornography addiction, but have some other sin set up as a stronghold in your life, get this book and it will equip you to be Christ-centered and Gospel-focused in your battle to be free of sin and fully submitted to Christ!”

“Of all the books that have been written recently in the “resist pornography” arena, Finally Free is head and shoulders above the rest. His book is practical, humble, loving and balances scripture, personal stories, and humor perfectly. This book will help those struggling with pornography, as well as those who are walking along side someone in the battle. Smart. Powerful. This will be one of those books that will remain at the front of the pornography addiction conversation for years to come. I highly recommend.”

“I cannot recommend this book enough.  Pornography is one of the most powerful sins that men and women are attracted to in our culture.  Yet, destruction, death, and broken relationships are the result of engaging in pornography.  We need a good word to stem the tide of pornography and Heath provides a grace-centered book here.”
Reviewer: Spencer Cummins (spencerdeancummins.blogspot.com)

“I can see this book being used in the church for the glory of God as Pastors counsel struggling Christians to find their ultimate pleasure and joy in Christ and thus begin to break loose of the chains of sexual sin that have so long ensnared them.

This book is intended for Christians who battle with pornography, but because of the approach of being focused on the Grace of God in Christ its application can be so much broader….GO BUY THIS BOOK!!!”

“This book approaches an ugly topic with dignity. Lambert does not delve into the seedy details or tiptoe on the edge of good taste. This is not a book about pornography. Rather, it emphasizes “the amazing power of Jesus Christ to free you from pornography.” The good news about this power is that “no matter how intense or how long-standing the struggle, it is the work of Jesus Christ to set people free from such sin.””

“I know several people I need to whom I need to commend this book. And there are probably many others I’m not aware of who need to read this book. Perhaps my church, or your church, need to invest in multiple copies of this book and give it to the men, whether they struggle against pornography or not. I wonder if God just might use it to transform His church into the pure, spotless, unwrinkled bride she is meant to be.”

“I wholeheartedly recommend this book as an aid in fighting and freeing oneself from pornography.  It is a solid biblical guide, and grace filled source to encourage anyone in their battle.  I think it could also be a help to spouses in understanding the fight and encouraging her husband in fighting pornography.  This of course is no substitute for her working through her own impact as my book states, but I believe many will be richly impacted by this useful source.”

“I would highly recommend this book for everyone. Especially those addicted to pornography and for those who may not be addicted but are struggling with lust that has not manifested itself yet as true addiction.”

“A person reading Finally Free cannot act as if grace is one strategy to fight against pornography. Instead, grace must be seen as the indispensable power that helps a person implement the other strategies to fight for purity”

“Heath Lambert will take you on a journey in this book of self-discovery and getting closer to God. Lambert doesn’t bash Christians with this issue, but guides them on a true path to repentance and change.”
Reviewer: Amanda Talbert (thetalbertreport.blogspot.com)

“I will recommend this book first and without any hesitation to those who ask. I cannot always say that with books on this topic. Some books focus too much on the sin and end up ensnaring some in renewed temptation. This book seeks to take the focus off of the sin and points the reader to the Saviour. Thank you Dr. Lambert and Zondervan for producing such a valuable resource for those who hurt and for those who want to help. May God be glorified for years to come by this book.”

“I remember reading Josh Harris’ Sex Isn’t the Problem Lust is. At the end of the book he said we need to change our focus and look to God in His glory if we want to change. Lambert does the same thing but takes it a step further. He says we need to consume Jesus, who reveals to us the glory of God, instead of consuming pornography. This takes the focus off the sin and on the Redeemer. Only Jesus through grace can free us. What a great God we serve.”

“In all, Finally Free is a useful little book, but I think its applicability is a little more limited than intended. The content is straightforward, which is helpful.”

“His practical application is biblical, wise, and absolutely refreshing.”

“The title doesn’t give anything away and it’s not ’til you are really into the book that you realize that it’s not the typical advice book on freedom or the typical how to book on freedom!”
Reviewer: Rosemary Swinehart (rmsdrummer.wordpress.com)

“The book makes for an easy read (but with hard truth that needs to be heard) and would make a great resource for a small group of guys struggling together. It is a fresh, grace-filled perspective on the fight against lust and offers the culmination of years of biblical wisdom that will point readers to the grace Christ offers and its power to defeat indwelling sin.”

“Up until now I haven’t had a go-to book to give out to guys who are struggling with porn, or their friends and families. That’s changed. I will be recommending this book from now on. I recommend it not just to those who are struggling with porn, but with those who want to help others who are struggling. I encourage you to get it.”

Finally Free, works from the Heart, then Relationship with the Lord. Heath Lambert works through processes to showcase and reveal where the eye of the storm is. I love how he uses illustrations and personal stories to really get the point a human point. Understanding and in plain English. He does not have to go into sex terminology or being raunchy. He expertly guides you through prayer and deliverance with God as your center.”

“One of the best parts of the book was in the introduction, where Dr. Lambert mentioned that he wanted to write a book that would not embarrass him or tempt his children to be impure… I highly recommend this book to those who are struggling or know someone who is.”

“Although this book is aimed at those who struggle with pornography, the methods and ideas suggested in his book could bless many of us who need to overcome any manner of addictions—or any number of sins for that matter. The author speaks from experience, not only his own struggle with addiction, but from many years of counseling individuals who are desperately breaking out of their addiction to pornography. Although he condemns the action of pornography consumption, he very much takes up the attitude of, “Hate the sin, love the sinner,” which would make this book much easier to recommend to a friend who struggled with porn.”

“If you are already struggling with this issue, you don’t need a history or statistics lecture, you need Jesus to help you conquer your sin. And that is where this book begins and ends – with Jesus.”

“I would strongly recommend this incredible book to anyone who is struggling with an active addiction to pornography, and they are truly sick and tired of the control it has over them. I would also recommend this amazing resource to anyone who knows someone who is fighting against pornography temptations and they are wanting to learn more about how to assist in helping their loved ones to win the final victory.”
