The Sin of Forgiveness by Edward F. Mrkvicka, Jr.This week the Cross Focused Reviewers are participating in a book review blog tour for The Sin of Forgiveness by Edward F. Mrkvicka, Jr. Excerpts and links to the reviews will appear below as they are available:

“There is so much richness to this book I don’t want to dole it out and spoil your experience reading this book for yourself. This book is not light, comfortable reading. It will pull you out of your comfort zone and challenge you to your core of what you’ve been taught.”

“I believe this book is unique in its intent to point out the differences in our perception of what forgiveness is supposed to be and the way it is presently practiced in the western world. As was probably intended, the title caught my eye and I happily volunteered to review it. I’m glad I did. The author’s Bible teaching is rock solid, something that is desperately needed in the present age.”

“I appreciated the author’s sentiment in so much as he urges his readers to be unwavering and unapologetic in their adherence to God’s law, but I worry that he may inadvertently hamper Christian charity by conflating forgiveness with out-and-out acceptance/justification of sin. I still want to believe that we can practice the one without the other.”

“The Sin of Forgiveness presents important aspects which one should consider when studying true biblical forgiveness, even though they may be viewed controversial by many. I recommend this book to anyone serious about understanding one of the most fundamental doctrines of Christianity.”

“Forgiveness is a topic that we will all deal with numerous times over the course of our lives. It is paramount that we know where we stand, and how to proceed according to the example of Christ as well as what the Word of God teaches. Is your forgiveness “justly helping that person or giving them license for continued rebellion against God”? This book will help you to determine all of the above.”

“Be prepared to be convicted, remorseful and in sorrow for yourself, your family and your friends. Because in the end we are called to unconditionally love but nowhere are we told to unconditionally forgive. Forgiveness should never be cheap, it cost Jesus everything for yours.”

“I so appreciated this study. It is a study of the meaning of forgivness. How to apply God’s word and to bring Him glory with our obedience. Mrkvicka gives great thoughtfulness and expresses God word very clearly. I have read several books on forgivness and this hands down is the most concise. Very blessed to read this book and look forward to reading more from an author that loves the word of God.”

“This book got me thinking about this subject from a different angle. Of course, the author is not saying that to forgive is a sin. But he is pointing out the fact that forgiveness was purchased for us at the cost of the Son of God, and therefore, it is not to be thought of lightly.”

“If you are looking for the book besides the Bible that talks about true forgiveness, look no further because Edward backs up lots of Bible verses in this short book and cites plenty of verses on “repentance”. If I had the choice of adding a subtitle, it would be: “Without repentance, there is no true forgiveness.” Please read this book and you will learn something from Edward.”
