Accidental Pharisees by Larry OsborneZealous faith can have a dangerous, dark side. While recent calls for radical Christians have challenged many to be more passionate about their faith, the down side can be a budding arrogance and self-righteousness that ‘accidentally’ sneaks into our outlook.

In Accidental Pharisees, bestselling author Larry Osborne diagnoses the most common traps that can ensnare Christians on the road to a deeper life of faith. Rejecting attempts to turn the call to follow Christ into a new form of legalism, he shows readers how to avoid the temptations of pride, exclusivity, legalism, and other common errors.

Larry reminds us that attempts to fan the Elames of full-on discipleship and call people to Christlikeness should be rooted in love and humility. Christians stirred by calls to radical discipleship, but unsure how to respond, will be challenged and encouraged to develop a truly Christlike zeal for God.

Praise for Accidental Pharisees: Avoiding Pride, Exclusivity, and the Other Dangers of Overzealous Faith:

“Larry Osborne combines winsome humor, brutal honesty, and keen insights about mistakes that good-hearted leaders are making. Read this book.”
-Matt Chandler, author, The Explicit Gospel

“Larry Osborne has written many great books, but this is his best. As I read each chapter, I kept thinking how desperately the church needs to hear this message. Every believer should
read it.
-Rick Warren, author, The Purpose Driven Life

“It is tempting to see Pharisees everywhere but in our own hearts. This book gives us pause to examine our motives, movements, and ministries in light of Scripture and to live out the gospel
in fresh and freeing ways.”
-Ed Stetzer, President, LifeWay Research

“Religion is ridiculous. It causes Christians to be more ‘holy’ than Christ. If you want to keep taking Jesus seriously but stop taking yourself too seriously, this book is for you.”
-Mark Driscoll, Pastor, Mars Hill Church

“Jesus reserved his harshest words for the religious people of his day. The truth is, there’s a little bit of religion in all of us, and a lot of it in the church. This book is a needed resource for
recovering Pharisees like us.”
-Darrin Patrick, Lead Pastor, The Journey

    Excited about this one!

  • Natalie,

I just finished reading it las week. It definitely gave me some food for thought. I think you’ll find it both entertaining and challenging at the same time. There are excellent study questions at the end of each section that I found very helpful for maximizing the benefit of the book. Accidental Pharisees would make for some engaging discussion in a small group setting. I’m looking forward to your review.
