Mail Call: IVP’s Reformation Commentary on Scripture Series
IVP just released the first commentary in their new Reformation Commentary on Scripture Series. The series editor, Timothy George, also has written a companion book for the series entitled Reading Scripture with the Reformers, also just released from IVP. I have received copies of both of these titles and am quite impressed. I expect the series will be as influential as the Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture Series was.
Reformation Commentary on Scripture Series: Galatians, Ephesians (vol. 10)
This volume is a treasure. It brings together the written comments of two dozen or more Reformation era scholars on the foundational books of Galatians and Ephesians. These two books were extremely influential on the Reformation mind, and so this book will prove to be all the more important. Many of the comments provided in this book have not yet been translated in English until now.

Reading Scripture with the Reformers
This book looks to synthesize what we can learn from a study of the Reformers and their view of Scripture. I look forward to digging into this more, but for now here’s the publisher’s product description:
In Reading Scripture with the Reformers, Timothy George takes readers through the exciting events of the sixteenth century, showing how this dynamic period was instigated by a fresh return to the Scriptures. George immerses us in the world of the Reformation, its continuities with the ancient and medieval church, and its dramatic upheavals and controversies. Most of all, he uncovers the significant way that the Bible shaped the minds and hearts of the reformers.
This book shows how the key figures of the Reformation read and interpreted Scripture, and how their thought was shaped by what they read. We are invited to see what the church today can learn from the fathers of the Reformation, and how these figures offer a model of reading, praying and living out the Scriptures.
