A week or so ago, I received a couple fairly recent theology books from Kregel. I’m looking forward to reading these and reviewing them. For now, I thought I’d give a introduction to each book along with my initial impressions.

40 Questions About Christians and Biblical Law by Thomas R. Schreiner
Having recently reviewed Schreiner’s commentary on Galatians, I am eager to open up this volume of his which deals more comprehensively with the question of the Law. Schreiner also has another title I’ve perused regarding this issue, The Law and Its Fulfillment: A Pauline Theology of Law.
The 40 questions book presents the issue in a more accessible format, attempting to answer direct questions that many Christians have about the Law. Schreiner is always very clear, which makes him the ideal one to address this issue. Also, a biblical theological perspective on this topic is especially beneficial. I think this book will be a great resource, and am looking forward to diving into it more fully.

From Plato to Jesus: What Does Philosophy Have to Do with Theology? by C. Marvin Pate
Philosophy is a topic I’d like to learn more about: especially how philosophy relates to Christian theology. This book seems to be the perfect introduction to philosophy. The author argues that philosophy and theology aren’t necessarily enemies. He shows how a Christian worldview makes sense of the key debates in philosophy, the tension between the many and the one. In Jesus Christ perfect balance is achieved. In the process of defending this claim, Pate surveys the history and development of philosophy and theology.
This book seems like a perfect text book for an introduction to Philosophy and I’m looking forward to studying this topic out in more detail.
